If you didn’t think your game was good enough for Hogan irons, think again
All golfers ... even those who simply play for the pure enjoyment of the game ... want to play to their fullest potential. Edge EX irons were specifically designed to allow a wide variety of golfers to do just that.
The word ‘forged’ that has been stamped on most Ben Hogan golf clubs since 1953 has been widely misunderstood. For many years only blade-style irons were forged, meaning that a single billet of steel was heated up and hammered into the shape of a golf-club head with brute force before it was finished by skilled craftsmen.
While this process created a golf clubs that the most accomplished players in the world loved since it provided exceptional feel, it didn’t allow for the incorporation of any game-improvement technologies. For most golfers, blades were ... and still are ... intimidating.
Edge EX irons change all that. Advances in CAD and manufacturing techniques now allow for the best of both worlds in a game-improvement iron. The unique Open Cavity Design used in Edge EX irons provides exceptional forgiveness for better shots, even on mis-hits. And, like all Ben Hogan irons, they provide the feedback that only a soft, forged club can. You’ve never hit anything like Edge EX irons before.
Maximum perimeter weighting
Edge EX’s floating face creates more stability and forgiveness.
The revolutionary design of the Edge EX irons is startling at first sight. Though it retains the traditional look and elegance that Ben Hogan irons are famous for, we’ve removed much of the unnecessary weight behind the hitting area and repositioned it to the edges of the clubhead. This creates the perception of a face that is ‘floating’ between the toe, heel and sole of the clubhead.
The Open Cavity design allowed our engineers to not only reposition weight to the perimeters of the club to increase stability and forgiveness, but also enabled them to enlarge the size of the clubhead significantly. As a result, the size of the face and ‘Effective Hitting Area’ has been increased. In effect, golfers see very little difference in distance and accuracy between shots hit directly in the center of the sweet spot and those much closer to the toe or heel.
The design also creates a solid, satisfying feel on shots hit across the entire width (and height) of the forged clubface. You’ll experience that special, blissful feeling that Mr. Hogan talked about on more shots than ever before.
Bigger clubhead, more offset, and thicker topline
Great results even when you don’t put your best swing on the ball
Most golfers don’t have time to practice every day like Ben Hogan did. In many cases, we show up to the course hoping our game is still in the bag ... somewhere. It can be an unsettling thought that can make even seasoned golfers anxious.
Edge EX irons were designed to inspire confidence even before the swing begins. Extra offset was incorporated into their design to allow more golfers to ‘square’ the clubhead at impact for straighter shots. A thicker topline was used to create more perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead. And the overall clubhead size was enlarged to maximize the size of the Effective Hitting Area.
Better yet, we’ve repositioned weight more weight than ever before low and rearward in the clubhead to make Edge EX irons incredibly easy to hit. They were specifically designed for deliberate, controlled swings ... not those you typically see by professional golfers. With Edge EX irons, you’ll never have to swing overly hard or take huge divots to see beautiful results.
Ben Hogan’s proprietary V-Sole® design
Modified sole shapes independently designed for each specific iron
Let’s face it, the sole of your irons usually aren’t particularly interesting. Few people pay much attention to them. More should, though, because a club’s interaction with the turf will dramatically impact whether a shot turns out well or poorly.
V-Sole technology has long been a standard feature Ben Hogan irons and wedges. It combines a high bounce leading edge with a low bounce trailing edge. This simple, yet highly engineered design allows for easy manipulation of the clubhead without changing the loft no matter if you are facing a downhill, uphill or even side hill lie.
The V-Sole Technology used on the Ben Hogan Edge EX irons has been optimized for each iron in the set. The strong leading edge combined with softer trailing edge allows the clubhead to glide through a wide variety of turf conditions. You won’t have to worry about excessive digging or, the clubhead ‘bouncing’ off the grass, or having the head being 'grabbed' by even the most coarse strain of grass.
Simplified Preciseloft System
Golf is hard enough. Edge EX simplifies it.
When we first launched the Ben Hogan PreciseLoft System in 2015, we thought it would add a layer of precision to golf equipment never before seen. We were right, and wrong.
The PreciseLoft System has two components. In general, it is a combination of loft profiles so golfers can select the launch trajectory that best suits his or her style of play. The system also mandated consistent 4-degree loft gaps between each iron for optimal distance gapping.
We firmly believe in consistent 4-degree loft gaps between irons. All Ben Hogan irons utilize this in order to minimize loft 'compression' at the long end of your set.
The Edge EX lofts are designed 2 degrees stronger than our Icon and PTx Pro irons to further enhance the playability for the mid-hanicap golfer looking not only for incredible feel and forgiveness, but also increased distance in their irons.
Don’t just take our word for it
I picked up a set of Hogan Edge Forged GS irons back in 1992, and I got pretty good with them, but for a number of reasons, I had to give up golf for a while. I took the clubs out of storage this year and started playing again. I averaged about 110 per round while I worked out the kinks and learned how to play again. I ordered a new set of Hogan Edge EX irons as soon as I saw them available. I had originally planned to wait until I played better, but my golf buddies convinced me I needed to replace my nearly 30-year-old clubs sooner than later. My new Hogan Edge EX irons (4-P) arrived on the 15th of June, and I took a couple of weeks to get used to them at the range and play a round or two. Today, playing only my 12th round since I started playing again, and only my 3rd round with my new Hogan irons, I shot a 96 and broke 100 for the first time this century! My last round with my old irons was 119, but the last three rounds with my new irons were 111, 107, 96! At this rate, I'll be breaking 90 soon and shooting in the 80s by the end of the season, if not sooner! Nothing compares to the soft feel of these clubs. I've seen others post it, and it's hard to describe, but the ball literally does feel as if it launches from the clubface. Also, since I'm not as young as I once was, I switched to senior shafts and boy-oh-boy, can I feel the difference. My swing isn't as fast as it used to be, and these new shafts are the real deal. The combination of the two, shaft and club head, make for one of the best clubs on the market. I used the HoganFit system to pick the right clubs for me. When the clubs arrived, I went to old school and used impact tape to check how and where I was hitting. Based on the marks I've seen, the HoganFit was spot on for me. I will be filling out the rest of my bag with a set of Equilizer II wedges and GS53 Max Driver and Fairway Woods very soon. I can afford to do this because my top-tier quality irons didn't cost top-tier prices! It feels great to be swinging golf clubs again and even better to be scoring under 100 again. If you don't think you're good enough to be playing Hogan irons or if you took a couple of decades off and are just now getting back into the game, I highly recommend you try a set of the Hogan Edge EX irons. You will not be disappointed!
Hey Ben! Thank you so much for the great review! We are so happy to hear you are playing again and that you have found exactly what you needed with us!
I have had every brand of irons made and these Ben Hogan Edge EX irons are the best in many ways. The Quality, Performance, Feel, and the way they look in my bag.
That is awesome Mike, we are happy to hear you are loving the Edge Ex so much!
I Wish I Bought These Irons A Few Years Back, The Feel Of These Are Awesome and I Couldn't Be Happier! Hogan Irons Rock!
That is great to hear Don! Happy to hear you love them!
Played only one round so far, but had 3 stroke improvement over recent average.
That is great to hear Tom! Glad you are loving them
I like the irons both looks and performance however the Lamkin corded grips are unusable after about 2 weeks. They are slick and hard to hold on to after very little use. Very dissapointed with the grips.
Hello John I am glad you like the irons very much and I am sorry you did not like the grips. Thank you for the feedback, I will let the team know
