  • The impossible combination of feel and forgiveness is possible again.

When the first Ben Hogan Edge iron was introduced thirty years ago, they quickly became known as the game's preeminent 'Game Enhancement' iron. Golfers used the original Edge because it looked and felt like a player's iron, but it offered much of the same forgiveness and playability of less visually attractive, investment cast 'Game Improvement' irons.

The same is true with the new Ben Hogan Edge. As with all Ben Hogan irons and wedges, it's forged to provide outstanding feedback so you can actually feel what you are doing right… and wrong. Yet the Edge is packed with the technology inside to help minimize the effect of miss-hits, so you can enjoy the game while fine tuning your swing.

Best of all, our engineers and designers have made it look like a Hogan iron so you don't have to choose between aesthetics and performance.

  • Technology you can't see, but will definitely feel.

Perimeter weighting has long been proven to be a viable club technology. Positioning weight around the edges of the head creates more stability and, in turn, more forgiveness. However, perimeter weighted, cavity back investment cast clubs sacrifice the elusive quality of feel.

Perimeter weighting technology has been nearly impossible to incorporate into a single-piece forged iron. So, the Ben Hogan Edge is constructed using two separate forged parts. The face is forged first using a hydraulic hammer, then its laser-welded to the back frame and hosel that is forged separately. Although expensive and difficult to manufacture, this process allows us to create exceptional perimeter weighting both inside and outside of the club head.

The hollow head construction also allowed us to vary the thickness of the club face. The longer irons with stronger lofts have a very thin, yet strong face for exceptional distance… even on shots struck on the toe or heel. The mid and short irons incorporate a progressively thicker face design providing for solid feel on scoring shots.

Once we've packed the heads with technology, they are filled with polycarbonate foam to create an incredibly solid feeling iron.

Ben Hogan Edge irons. It's what is on the inside that counts.

  • More confidence before you hit your first shot.

Ben Hogan Edge irons are, on average, 12% larger than our tour-proven Ben Hogan PTx irons, creating a larger effective hitting area. This means shots that are struck closer to the toe or heel, or high or low on the face, will perform much like they would if hit on the sweet spot. So, you'll still get a lot of the same distance and accuracy of a perfectly struck shot.

We've also added a bit more offset to the Edge irons. This provides two distinct benefits; first, it allows more time for your hands to square up at impact. Offset also creates higher shot trajectories and steeper decent angles, allowing shots to better hold greens.

Plus, we've incorporated a slightly thicker top line creating the appearance of more mass in the club head. This provides more confidence at address, so you can swing freely.

Best of all, though, Ben Hogan Edge irons maintain the classic good looks and integrity of all Ben Hogan irons.

  • Modified sole shapes independently designed for each specific iron.

Ben Hogan's V-Sole technology has been continuously improved by the company. The technology combines a high bounce leading edge and low bounce trailing edge. This often copied … but never replicated … design allows for easy manipulation of the clubhead without changing the loft no matter if you are facing a downhill, uphill or even side hill lie. V-Sole truly is the most versatile sole in golf.

However, feedback from strong players and robot testing indicated that the leading edge could be increased on certain irons, and trailing edge softened … especially with less-than-full shots in the shorter irons.

So, in our ongoing quest to design and manufacture the best clubs in golf, we've improved the V-Sole Technology used on the Ben Hogan Edge irons. The sole has been optimized for each iron in the set. In effect, we've strengthened the leading edge from the sole to the face on some of the Edge irons, while reducing the trailing edge bounce on others.

This allows accomplished players to swing with confidence on both full and less-than-full shots, without fear of excessive digging or having the head being 'grabbed' by any strain of grass.

  • Golf is hard enough. Edge simplifies it.

When we first launched the Ben Hogan PreciseLoft System in 2015, we thought it would add a layer of precision to golf equipment never before seen. We were right. And wrong.

The PreciseLoft System has two components. In general, it is a combination of loft profiles so golfers can select the launch trajectory that best suits his or her style of play. The system also mandated consistent 4-degree loft gaps between each iron for optimal distance gapping.

We firmly believe in consistent 4-degree loft gaps between irons. All Ben Hogan irons utilize this in order to minimize loft 'compression' at the long end of your set.

Here is a comparison of lofts between Ben Hogan Edge irons and another manufacturer's 'player's iron:

    Lofts 4 5 6 7 8 9 PW
    Ben Hogan Edge 22° 26° 30° 34° 38° 42° 46°
    Competitor 21° 23.5° 26.5° 30.5° 35° 40° 45°

    Loft Gaps 4 5 6 7 8 9 PW
    Ben Hogan Edge N/A 4°;
    Competitor N/A 2.5° 3.0° 4.0° 4.5° 5.0° 5.0°

Inconsistent loft variations between irons of between 2.5 and 5.0 degrees simply doesn't make sense. It creates little differentiation in distance with long irons, and excessive distance gaps with scoring irons. Extensive consumer testing has proven the Ben Hogan PreciseLoft System to be preferred by serious golfers and, ultimately, lead to lower scores.

However, offering four (4) separate launch profiles within a set of irons proved to be both confusing and unnecessary. While it still may be viable for the most accomplished golfers in the world, our 'mid-high' launch profile was preferred for the vast majority of players. For that reason, Ben Hogan Edge irons are available in only that profile and are stamped with 'traditional' numbers. However, as with all Ben Hogan irons, length, lie and now loft customizations are available at no charge.
